Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum ble grunnlagt i 1893, og i tillegg til å samle inn fortidens kunsthåndverk, har museet helt siden starten hatt et klart samtidsfokus. Som et resultat av dette, har museet i dag en imponerende art nouveau-samling, to spesialdesignede kontorinteriører, japansk keramikk og moderne kunsthåndverk – i tillegg til en rikholdig samling eldre gjenstander.
