Schjølbergs pigmentanalyser viser at den mørkeste varpen inneholder hvit ull blandet med til dels sterkt pigmenterte fibre. Den lyse varpen og veften varierer fra å være helt hvit til å være hvit iblandet noe pigmentert ull. På baksiden er det bevart et lolag som trolig stammer fra en lett valking, og som gjør at fargeskillene blir mindre tydelige. Schjølberg tror kofta har vært dekket med dette lolaget og at stoffet har hatt en lysegrå farge. Ulikt skjorta kan verken jeg eller Schjølberg finne spor etter slitasjehull eller lapper.
