Totrådet garn vil bli betegnet som enten Z2S eller S2Z etter den terminologien som er fastsatt av Walton og Eastwood (Walton og Eastwood 1988:5). Enkelte steder har man sydd med to Z- spunnede tråder som ikke er tvunnet i hverandre. Dette vil bli beskrevet som ”tolagt Z- garn/tråd”.
