– Dersom vi skal si noe om velferdsnivået i et land, kan vi ikke nøye oss med å bare se på hvilke ressurser som er tilgjengelig. Vi må i tillegg se på folks muligheter til å benytte seg av de ressursene de har og på andre faktorer som påvirker menneskers livssituasjon, som for eksempel mulighet.Hva er rettferdighet?Sri Lankas nasjonale myndigheter har ikke rettferdighet.Vi lever i usikkerhet hver eneste dag. Vi har ingen rettigheter I frykt for å bli arrestert når de returnerer til hjemlandet, Myndighetene i Sri Lanka er under økende internasjonalt press. FN la i fjor frem en rapport som fastslo at både regjeringssoldater og LTTE begikk krigsforbrytelser under borgerkrigen, da så mange som 40.000 sivile liv gikk tapt i løpet av de siste månedene av krigen.

Rett før jul publiserte Sri Lanka en egen rapport om borgerkrigen, men flere av medlemmene av FNs menneskerettighetsråd mener at myndighetene må gjøre mer for å avklare hva som faktisk skjedde under krigen, og følge opp de anbefalingene de selv kom med i rapporten.

We have no rights in fear to be arrested when they return to their home country, the Government of Sri Lanka is under increasing international pressure.
