Tarjei Vesaas var vanskelig å fotog

Tarjei Vesaas var vanskelig å fotografere. Han var veldig brydd, likte det ikke, så gjerne bort hver gang du ville ta et bilde. Da jeg ville ta et bilde av han i arbeidsrommet, som var fylt med papir- og bokhauger slik det pleide å være, måtte jeg vente utenfor til han hadde ryddet. Da døra gikk opp var kontoret helt blåst, og Vesaas satt stivt bak pulten. Jeg spurte om han ikke kunne se i en bok eller noe, og han egnet seg til en intens studie av Rutebok for Norge. Han tinte litt opp da han skjønte jeg var bygdemenneske, og at vi begge var odelsgutter som var litt mislykka. Ut på dagen rodde vi to over til en fiskebu han hadde. Vi fikk litt mer tid sammen og ble litt bedre kjent. På tilbaketuren satt han på rotofta, jeg sat på midtofta. Han svarer på noe, stopper å ro, ser direkte på meg. Plutselig fikk jeg ordentlig kontakt med ham, og jeg tok bildet. Det er noen ganger du trykker på utløseren, at du føler at der, der fikk jeg noe. Det er ikke alt for ofte.
